諏訪家は紋匠師を継承してきた家です。
英語でいえば、紋匠師はテキスタイルデザイナーということになりますが
欧米でテキスタイルデザイナーと呼ばれている職種とは異なり、
ただ、テキスタイルになるための原画を描くだけでなく、
織機を熟知し、また織物を織り構造から理解し、
実際にジャガード織機をコントロールするために必要な紋紙（パンチカード）を作成するまでを
職域としています。

The Suwas succeeded to MONSHOH-SHI from generation to generation.
MONSHOH-SHI is textile designer. 
However, we do not design on a desk.they know a weaving machine well technically 
and they control it and do there with their job area.
We understand a textile for structure.
and we make a board to control a jacquard weaving machine based on the knowledge by oneself.
